Range of Light Natural History Ski Traverse

High Sierra California, USA, 7 Days, $2,000, Spring

Follow in the footsteps of John Muir with this seven day adventure into the heart of the High Sierra. Join the Ice Axe Impact School as students physical and intellectual limits are stretched hiking, snow camping, and skiing across the magnificent Sierra Nevada. Starting at the classic Symmes Creek trailhead, each day will begin and end with student journaling and reflection time aligned with personal goals for the trip. From our start point in the Eastern Sierra we will work our way west, crossing the Sierra Crest with skis, with a gradual descent into Sequoia National Park.

Along the way students will learn about local ecology, narratives of the lands first people, as well as the history of regional settlement. Students will take away leadership skills, outdoor survival skills, and come away with a deeper understanding of the past, present, and future of the Sierra. A course designed for students and life long learners with prior backcountry skiing experience, this course pairs world class ski touring with a bioregional educational component to foster a memorable, uniquely place based learning experience.
